Genetic Recombination of the Mantle Color Pattern of Two Boring Giant Clam (Tridacna crocea) Strains

نویسندگان

چکیده

According to the RGB law display, polymorphism of giant clam mantle color pattern is through four iridocytes. The boring ( Tridacna crocea ) exhibits diverse colors, including blue, green, purple, gold, and orange. In order evaluate genetic laws driving these patterns, a complete diallel cross between two strains [blue strain (only blue iridocyte) yellow-green (yellow green iridocytes)] was performed. Using single-to-single mating system, intra-strain crosses (BB YY) reciprocal inter-strain (BY YB) were produced in triplicates. Higher fertilization rate hatching observed all experimental groups, suggesting that there no sperm–egg recognition barrier strains. grow-out stage, size hybrids larger than pure with degree heterosis. addition, compared strains, have higher larval metamorphosis survival rate. At 1 year age, showed 100% stable inheritance, while exhibited colorful patterns (a combination yellow, green), recombination colors during expression period. These results provide theoretical basis for formation its segregation law, as well guidance breeding clams.

Phylogeography and limited genetic connectivity in the endangered boring giant clam across the Coral Triangle.

The Coral Triangle is the global center of marine biodiversity; however, its coral reefs are critically threatened. Because of the bipartite life history of many marine species with sedentary adults and dispersive pelagic larvae, designing effective marine protected areas requires an understanding of patterns of larval dispersal and connectivity among geographically discrete populations. We use...

Architecture of crossed-lamellar bivalve shells: the southern giant clam (Tridacna derasa, Röding, 1798)

Tridacna derasa shells show a crossed lamellar microstructure consisting of three hierarchical lamellar structural orders. The mineral part is intimately intergrown with 0.9 wt% organics, namely polysaccharides, glycosylated and unglycosylated proteins and lipids, identified by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. Transmission electron microscopy shows nanometre-sized grains with irregular ...

Growth, Survival and Reproduction of the Giant Clam Tridacna maxima (Röding 1798, Bivalvia) in Two Contrasting Lagoons in French Polynesia

Shell growth, reproduction, and natural mortality of the giant clam Tridacna maxima were characterized over a two-year-period in the lagoon of the high island of Tubuai (Austral Archipelago) and in the semi-closed lagoon of Tatakoto (Tuamotu Archipelago) in French Polynesia. We also recorded temperature, water level, tidal slope, tidal range, and mean wave height in both lagoons. Lower lagoon a...

Genetic diversity and population differentiation of small giant clam Tridacna maxima in Comoros islands assessed by microsatellite markers

Small giant clam, Tridacna maxima, widely distributed from French Polynesia to East Africa, has faced population declines due to over-exploitation. Comoros islands are an important biogeographic region due to potential richness of marine species, but no relevant information is available. In order to facilitate devising effective conservation management plan for T. maxima, nine microsatellite ma...
